Frequently Asked Questions
How does the speech tracking actually work?
Talking Points uses Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework to transcribe what you say in real time. That transcription is then analyzed against your talking points using a combination of exact keyword matching and AI-powered semantic understanding — so it recognizes when you've covered a point even if you didn't use the exact words you wrote down.
Is my voice data private?
Yes. Your voice is processed by Apple's Speech Recognition framework — we never receive, record, or store your audio or transcriptions. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Why isn't the app recognizing what I'm saying?
A few things to check: (1) Make sure the microphone permission is granted in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. (2) If you're in a noisy environment, try adjusting the Coverage Sensitivity slider in app settings to "Lenient." (3) Speak clearly and at a moderate pace — very fast speech can reduce accuracy. (4) Try submitting a diagnostic report by shaking your device, which helps us diagnose recognition issues.
My talking points aren't turning green even when I say them.
First, check that speech recognition is actually running — you should see the waveform animating in the control bar. If it is, try adjusting the Coverage Sensitivity to "Lenient" in Settings. If a specific phrase isn't being detected, try rewording it or adding synonyms. You can also submit a diagnostic report (shake your device) to send us the specific detection data.
How do I use Remote Control?
Remote Control connects two devices on the same local network using peer-to-peer Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. On the host device, open a conversation and tap the remote icon. On the second device, open the app and it will appear as an available session to connect to. Once connected, one device can control playback while the other displays the talking points.
What file formats can I import and export?
The app uses its own .tpt format for full fidelity import/export. You can also import plain text files — the app will parse them into tiles. Export options include the .tpt format for sharing with other Talking Points users, and a plain text transcript summary of your session.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. All core features — writing talking points, tracking speech, using the timer — work completely offline. iCloud sync and cloud sync features require a connection. Speech recognition may fall back to on-device-only mode without a connection, which works well on modern iPhones and iPads.
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad, find Talking Points, and tap Cancel Subscription. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.
The app crashed. What should I do?
We're sorry! Please shake your device to send a diagnostic report — this gives us the technical details we need to fix it. If shaking doesn't work, you can also email us directly with your device model and iOS version, and a description of what you were doing when it crashed.
Is there a Mac version?
Yes — Talking Points runs natively on macOS. Download it from the Mac App Store and it syncs with your iPhone and iPad automatically. Keyboard shortcuts are supported for a full desktop experience.
